"The Wings of the Dove" adapts Henry James' novel by the same name.
Set in 1910, the film follows the story of Kate Croy (Helena Bonham Carter) and her lover, Merton Densher (Linus Roache).
Although the two are engaged and desperately want to marry, both have meager means. Kate lives with
her domineering aunt, Maude (Charlotte Rampling), and is constantly put upon by her family's troubles, while Merton is a
penniless writer. Kate concocts a dangerous and deceptive plan when she meets Milly Theale (Alison Elliott), an enormously rich young American woman,
who is secretly in love with Merton, and who appears to be suffering from an incurable disease. She plots with a somewhat
reluctant Merton that he marry Milly, so that he will inherit her fortune after her impending death, allowing he and Kate to marry.
This film is rated R for sexuality.
