This adaptation of Henry James' novel The Turn of the Screw stars Jodhi May as a young governess hired by a charming bachelor (Colin Firth) to care for his nephew and niece in a grand mansion in rural England. The governess is determined to make the best of her situation, although she does not understand the master's odd request that she never contact him. When she arrives to the mansion, everything appears idyllic: the estate is lovely, the housekeeper is friendly and the children are perfectly delightful. She is soon startled by the ghosts of the former valet, Peter Quint and a previous governess, Miss Jessel, and becomes convinced that her young pupiles are communicating with them. This gripping Victorian ghost story achieves spine-tingling entertainment without any gore or violence, and is old-fashioned fun for those who crave a little excitement.
This film is made for television and not rated.
