Summary
Jane Austen's Persuasion tells the story of a love that survives the uncertainty of
time and the obstacles of class prejudice in Regency society.
Amanda Root stars as Anne, a meek, quiet woman who has spent the eight years regretting her decision to accept the advice
of her mentor and turn down a proposal from a dignified naval officer named Captain Wentworth (played by Ciaran Hinds).
When they meet again years later, Captain Wentworth has made a sizable fortune for himself. This is now contrasted with
Anne's family situation, now uncertain because her father has incurred a number of bad debts and extravagant living.
The film is subtle and graceful, and among the most thoughtful of all Jane Austen films.
This film is rated PG.
