THE INHERITANCE (1997)

Summary

"The Inheritance" is a story about family, love, loss and honor based on the recently-discovered manuscript by classic author Louisa May Alcott of Little Women fame. Edith Adelton (Cari Shayne) is an orphan who comes to the United States as a child to be a companion and tutor to the Hamilton family's young daughter Amy. Though Edith's parentage is a mystery, she has found great happiness and comfort with the Hamiltons. When the family's cousin Ida (Brigid Conley Walsh) comes to visit, Mrs. Hamilton enlists Edith in a matchmaking plan involving two suitors for Ida. When both men fall for the lovely and sweet Edith and Ida realizes that her chances have faded, she schemes to discredit Edith, leading the family to a crisis of loyalties and the ultimate discovery of Edith's lineage. Also starring Meredith Baxter, Tom Conti and Thomas Gibson.
