GLADIATOR (2000)

Summary

Russell Crowe stars as Maximus, a powerful Roman general who is beloved by his people and favored by the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. When the Emperor chooses Maximus to be the heir to the throne, the Emperor's evil son, Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix), takes revenge by murdering the Emperor as well as Maximus' family. Fueled by a desire for justice, Maximus, now a captured slave and gladiator, endeavors to secure his freedom and avenge the deaths of his loved ones. Brilliant performances by Academy Award winner, Crowe, and Phoenix make this epic an outstanding dramatic epic. The movie contains scenes of violence and death and serious themes.

This film is rated R for intense, graphic combat.
